Abstract
Through case studies and historical analysis, this study analyzes the contributions of Mexico's Jewish community, showcasing how a small minority can influence an entire country. The thesis is organized both chronologically and by themes, as it follows Mexican Jewish history, economic impact, political participation, and cultural achievements, while at the same time addressing criticisms. This helps find the conditions that allowed the Mexican Jewish community to thrive independently, but also give back to the broader Mexican society. Despite being a minority group that represents less than 0.05% of the population, the study discusses how the Jewish community in Mexico has significantly impacted the economic, political, and cultural development of the country, specifically since their arrival in the early 20th century. The contributions to Mexican society were made possible given that the community was able to remain united and develop its own institutions and networks, while also being accepted by the wider society and given access to opportunity. Through the lessons derived from the experience of the Mexican Jewish community, this thesis gives policy recommendations to Mexico on how to strengthen its assistance to other minority and immigrant communities, such as implementing inclusive policies that empower minority growth through institutional support and recognition. The Jewish community has played a key role in Mexico's economy, political landscape, and culture, offering a strong example of how minority contributions can drive national development not only in Mexico, but around the globe.
