Abstract

Principally, people understand interior as four walls and a ceiling. However, I propose that the defining condition of interior is more than just enclosure. Instead, if you consider interiority, a theory which describes how individuals come to dwell in a building, materiality, and enclosure, you get a more complete definition of interior. This research looks at tropical modernist architecture because the consistency of tropical climates and the diversity of native materials allow tropical modernist projects to directly engage their contexts with a unique vernacular.
